The suffering in northern Gaza under harsh living conditions is becoming more and more difficult as a result of the ongoing blockade, humanitarian crises, and repeated wars that have devastating effects on the lives of the people of the region.

A Life Under Siege

Gaza is one of the most difficult places to live and this is one of the forms of suffering in northern Gaza, where the population has been suffering for many years from a suffocating siege imposed by Israel on the movement of people and goods to and from the Gaza Strip by land, sea and air, ongoing humanitarian crises and difficult living conditions.

Among the most affected areas is northern Gaza, which is a center of daily suffering. Life in this area has become akin to an ongoing conflict with time. People find themselves trapped between the basic necessities of life and the conditions of war.

Palestinian Families

In northern Gaza, Palestinian families are living in an environment where many cannot meet their basic needs. The continued siege and destruction of infrastructure in the area have made it difficult for citizens to access clean water and electricity on a continuous basis. Contaminated groundwater is a danger to the health of citizens.

Health sector

The health sector also suffers from a severe shortage of medicines and medical equipment, which increases the risk of outbreaks of diseases and injuries due to repeated wars. Hospitals are barely keeping up with the needs of patients, so families are often forced to travel elsewhere for treatment, if possible under the difficult conditions that dominate the region.

In addition, Gaza’s children in the north face innumerable challenges: schools are being destroyed and, if they do exist, they lack the necessary facilities for quality education.

Despite all the difficulties and daily tragedies faced by the people of northern Gaza, they continue to persevere, believing in the inevitability of change and looking forward to a better tomorrow is what motivates them to continue in this harsh life, and some may think that there is no hope in the shadow of this siege, but in Gaza, where people build their strength through solidarity and cooperation, there is no hope under any sign of conflict, even if it is faint, with every drop of water, and every heartbeat.

The Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza

For many years, Gaza has been the scene of an ongoing humanitarian tragedy, with more than 2 million Palestinians suffering from severe shortages of food, water, electricity and health care. The humanitarian crisis in Gaza is not limited to economic conditions, but extends beyond them to include all basic aspects of life, threatening human life at every moment.

This crisis is worsening day by day, with the continuing security situation and the destruction of all aspects of life in the Strip.

In addition to what the people are suffering from the start of the 2023 Palestinian-Israeli war, Israel has imposed a comprehensive blockade on the Strip, which has led to significant shortages of fuel, food, medicine, water and basic medical supplies. Due to the significant reduction in electricity, power supplies in hospitals and sewage plants have been affected and desalination plants have been shut down.

In addition, a very large number of buildings in the Gaza Strip were destroyed or damaged by the Israeli war on the Strip.

Due to the disruption of the entry of urgent supplies, which led to a scarcity of basic materials, the population is living a real famine in the northern province of the Gaza Strip, and with the disappearance of canned candies, wheat flour and rice from the markets, which the people of the Gaza Strip have relied on for their food since the beginning of the aggression, the people of northern Gaza went to grind corn and barley grains for the manufacture of animal feed, so that more than 750,000 people in the Gaza Strip face catastrophic hunger.

Due to the continued heavy bombardment of northern Gaza, desalination plants and water distribution and sewage networks have been destroyed, disrupting or contaminating the water supply, making access to clean and safe water difficult, and leading to high rates of cholera and other deadly infectious diseases.

The constant air raids and explosions have contributed to the psychological destruction of children in Gaza, where children have been severely traumatized, including by cramping, aggression, bedwetting and nervousness, in addition to many children who have developed symptoms of anxiety, and the majority have developed symptoms of post-traumatic stress.

The humanitarian crisis in Gaza is a comprehensive humanitarian disaster that requires urgent intervention from the international community. It is no longer just a local issue, but a humanitarian responsibility that requires immediate action to end the suffering of more than two million Palestinians.

As the people of Gaza continue to withstand all obstacles, humanity cannot continue to ignore this tragic reality. Radical solutions must be found to provide a dignified and secure life for the people of Gaza who have suffered enough.

Tragic conditions for displaced people in Gaza

With the onset of the cold winter, the destruction of most homes and buildings, and the forced displacement of the population of northern Gaza, the displaced people are facing challenges and difficult conditions in the open, and due to the weather depressions and the accompanying heavy rains, there is a crisis in the discharge of rainwater and sewage that has gathered in the streets, as a result of the massive damage to the sewage networks caused by the continuous Israeli bombardment.

The inhabitants of the Gaza Strip live in tragic conditions in makeshift camps or in crowded places where they lack the most basic necessities of life. There is no safe drinking water, and power cuts continue for long hours, making life more difficult. In addition, they lack adequate sanitation, which exposes them to many infectious diseases due to water pollution and the spread of insects.

In terms of personal security, the displaced live under constant threat of shelling, leaving them in a state of constant fear. Children are the most affected by these conditions. They live in a psychological state of disrepair due to the constant terror experienced by all family members. Many of these displaced people suffer from the loss of homes and property, leading to the loss of hope of returning to a normal life. Families who lost a member in the attacks or who suffer serious injuries are especially hard to get proper medical care.

From an educational point of view, displaced children suffer from interrupted education due to the destruction of or lack of access to schools due to security conditions, and schools that remain open are overcrowded, where it is difficult to provide a child-friendly learning environment.

Unforgettable, real-life stories from the heart of suffering in the Gaza Strip: "The reality of parenting in Gaza is under rocket fire in most parts of the world, parents hold their children playing with them, apply..."

The reality of parenting in Gaza under rocket fire

In most parts of the world, parents hold their children playing with them, tearing them apart or gently playing with them in the midst of cruel laughter. But in Gaza, parents do not live these happy moments in the same way. There, the feelings of parenthood become very different, where the father or mother is forced to write the names of their children on the limbs of their small bodies, not out of play or fun, but to ensure that they are recognized even if the worst happens.

Mohammed Bahar: Victim of the brutality of the occupation under the tusks of dogs

Mohammed Bahar, a 24-year-old Palestinian with Down syndrome, had his mother as his safe haven, but one day during this violent war, the Israeli occupation forces raided his family in Gaza after long days of shelling. The family members gathered in a small house for fear of bullets while Mohammed remained inside the lounge, which he could not escape or run.

These stories we hear and report are only a small part of the countless sea of suffering Palestinians in Gaza, let alone those who have lived these tragedies, who have endured pain in silence, buried their dreams under the rubble of destruction, the story of Muhammad Bahar, or other horrific stories, are just a point in the ocean of similar stories of other people who have suffered the same injustice and oppression.

These tales tell of the suffering of thousands, but they reveal little about the daily reality of millions of Palestinians living under constant wars, sieges, and occupations. The pains they experienced are not told with words, and the blood that flowed hides entire lives lost, families destroyed, and children who knew nothing but war and destruction.

Campaigns and initiatives to support the steadfastness of the people of Gaza

The Palestinian people in Gaza continue to withstand all challenges. In this context, several campaigns and initiatives have emerged. Sawaed Palestine Charity Team which aims to support their resilience and alleviate their suffering. These campaigns range from urgent humanitarian aid, awareness initiatives, and civil society support, to becoming the only hope for many in Gaza facing major life challenges.

Many campaigns and initiatives have been launched to support the people of Gaza in facing the humanitarian crisis they are experiencing. For example, there are campaigns to provide urgent food and medical assistance through fundraising and distribution of essential items to families in need. Initiatives have also been launched to raise international awareness of the suffering of the people of Gaza, with the aim of pressuring the international community to provide greater humanitarian support and assistance.

In addition, some organizations provided psychological support to children and families affected by conflict, and provided educational programs in light of the destruction of schools and educational facilities. Other campaigns focus on providing basic necessities such as clean water, clothing and shelter, alleviating the suffering of citizens.

Some initiatives also aim to provide support to small businesses and productive families in Gaza, with the aim of stimulating the local economy and providing job opportunities for members of the besieged community, thus contributing to their long-term resilience.

Despite the major challenges faced by Gazans, various support campaigns and initiatives give them hope for the future and help alleviate their daily suffering. These campaigns are not limited to providing humanitarian assistance, but also to strengthening collective and community resilience and unifying efforts to support the rights of Palestinians to a decent life. The continuation of these initiatives requires concerted international and local efforts to provide a better life for the people of Gaza and provide them with the necessary support in the face of all challenges.
