The Palestinians witnessed continuous arrests by the Israeli occupation forces before the outbreak of the October 7, 2023 war, but the pace of these arrests has escalated in an unprecedented way since the beginning of the aggression, where thousands of Palestinians, including women, children and the elderly, were arrested. These arrests are often carried out without clear charges or fair trials, under harsh and inhumane conditions of detention. In the midst of these violations, the children of prisoners in Gaza stand out as one of the most marginalized and suffering groups, deprived of their right to live in dignity, suffering profound psychological and social consequences, and ignoring their basic needs. This group pays a heavy price for the world’s silence and faces human rights and humanitarian neglect.
What is the campaign to support the children of prisoners in Gaza?
Al-Saeed Palestine Charity team is based on the campaign to support the sons of prisoners in Gaza, which aims to provide direct humanitarian support to the sons of prisoners from Gaza who suffer from the loss of a parent and the harsh conditions of life under siege, where the number of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons since October 7, 2023, until mid-January 2024, an estimated 5835 prisoners, including 170 children. Highlights of the campaign:
1- Daily meals for the children of prisoners to alleviate hunger and deprivation
With the blockade and increasing poverty in the Gaza Strip, many families, especially the children of prisoners, are suffering from food insecurity. The campaign focuses on providing children with daily meals to alleviate hunger and close the food gap that threatens their health and development.
2. Provision of school clothing and tools
The children of prisoners are deprived of their most basic rights, including the right to wear appropriate clothing and attend school, especially with the interruption of education for more than a year and a half now, and the campaign seeks to provide them with the necessary clothing and school tools to reintegrate them into educational and social life, and compensate part of the lack of family stability.
Providing families with basic materials and relief
With electricity and water outages, and basic supplies running out due to the blockade and war, families of prisoners are struggling to provide for their daily needs. The campaign seeks to provide these families with dry food rations, detergents and basic living tools in order to enhance their resilience and provide a minimum level of life, especially in the absence of breadwinners and worsening humanitarian conditions.
How does the detention of prisoners affect their families?
As the war in Gaza continues and the aggression escalates daily, the suffering of families of prisoners, especially children and young people, is greatly compounded as they face challenges beyond their capacity to cope, with children deprived of the presence of one or both parents, causing psychological disorders and a constant sense of deprivation and fear. Families also suffer from constant anxiety, especially in light of the lack of news or the lack of knowledge of the place or conditions of detention, and in many cases, the prisoner is the main breadwinner of the family, leaving the family in a difficult economic situation, especially with the siege and high prices in Gaza.
In addition, captive mothers are deprived of their children, and children may be separated from their mothers at an early age. Visits are also prohibited and the means of communication between the prisoners and their families are cut off, leaving the family in complete darkness, not knowing if their son is alive, injured or tortured, which creates unbearable psychological pain.
